September's menu at Eggless was round two of staff inspired desserts and there were so many delicious sounding choices I ended up visiting twice this month. On my first visit hubby and myself shared the tasting plate for two which offers a selection four mini versions from the standard menu. We also ordered another item which wasn't included on the platter because it sounded too good to pass up!
September's tasting platter included Kirby’s White Chocolate Rhu-berry Cake (Rhubarb & blueberry cake served with white chocolate drizzle & vanilla ice cream), Mei’s Passionfruit, Honey & Pistachio Tiramisu (vanilla cake soaked in honey & Cointreau layered with passionfruit cream & pistachio), Kelly T’s Chocolate Mousse with Vino Cotto Strawberries (chocolate mousse topped with Maggie Beer’s quince vino cotto & mint macerated strawberries) and Belle’s Dark Chocolate & Orange Cheesecake (orange cream cheese with a layer of dark chocolate ganache on a biscuit base). It was recommended by the waitress that we started by eating the rhu-berry cake and move through the platter as the last two items were much richer. The rhu-berry cake was fantastic, the cake itself was moist and fluffy with plenty of fruit throughout. The ice-cream was creamy and there was plenty of white chocolate drizzled over the top. Next up was the tiramisu, this was my favourite dessert of the night with its really unique combination of flavours. Again, the cake aspect was super moist and light, the cream layer wasn't to much or too little and the passion fruit and Cointreau flavours were clear and distinctive. The chocolate mousse was the third item, and was hubby's favourite from the tasting platter. It was a really indulgent, rich, thick mousse with a strong chocolate taste. I found this one a little too intense but if you love dark chocolate this would go down a treat. The last item was the cheesecake. The orange flavour in this was strong but was balanced well with a silky, shiny chocolate ganache. The cheesecake layer was smooth and creamy and the biscuit base wasn't too hard or soft. Overall a good rendition of a cheesecake.
The extra item we ordered was Edmund’s Peanut Butter Ice cream & Banana Cake Sandwich (peanut butter ice cream sandwiched between moist banana cakes & served with raspberry compote). This was a no brainer...I love anything peanut butter flavoured and hubby loves banana bread so it sounded like a match made in heaven for us. The dish was really well presented and was served with a well balanced tart/sweet raspberry compote. The banana bread itself was nice, texturally I think it included chopped nuts which added a nice bite. The flavour of the peanut butter ice-cream was amazing, it had that gooey peanut butter taste without being too rich, however texture wise it was just too hard. We arrived at opening so I think it may have just come out of the freezer, but it was impossible to cut though making the dessert hard to eat :( If the ice-cream had just been a little softer this dessert would have been perfect as the flavour combination was spot on.
Later in the month I stopped in a second time and couldn't resist ordering the full sized version of the tiramisu. It was just as amazing, the unique combination of flavours were just so light and refreshing.
On this visit I went with three friends and all of them ordered Brittany’s Hazelnut, Chocolate & Salted Caramel Sundae (hazelnut & chocolate ice cream, salted caramel brownie, salted caramel sauce & toasted hazelnuts). They all really enjoyed this, with the salted caramel sauce being noted as particularly good. I did sample some of the brownie component of the dish, it was really sweet and caramelly but I would say it was more cake like then brownie like in texture. Service on both visits was great, the owner is so friendly and fun to chat to! The service really does make this place stand out from other dessert places in Adelaide, and with its combination of ever changing delicious desserts and friendly staff its no wonder this place is always jam packed!
