On Saturday I headed out with a friend to try another restaurant on my food bucket list, Melt Pizzeria on Waymouth Street. Thankfully we booked a table because the place was really busy! The venue had a really modern but classy vibe about it with interesting artwork, low level lighting and a mix of contemporary and slightly older music playing. The tables are pretty close together (and the people next to us were obnoxiously loud) and in combination with slightly loud music and the general restaurant 'buzz' it was difficult to hold conversation. When we were seated we were offered a choice of tap, bottle or sparkling water, we opted for sparkling which my dining partner noted had a particularly nice taste. While we were still pondering the menu the waitress came back to see if we would like to order more drinks, and we chose to have a glass of 42 Degrees South Chardonnay Pinot Noir NV each. This was a really nice sparkling with a crisp, clean taste and a good amount of fizz. When the waitress originally poured the glass she decided it was too flat and grabbed a new bottle and glass which was impressive.
Melt specialise in pizza but also have a huge range of tapas. We decided to order one tapas plate and a salad to start followed by a pizza to share.
The tapas we selected was a roasted pork belly with cauliflower puree. This was divine, the pork had a fantastic crispy crackling whilst still being super juicy and tender. It was cooked well and literally melted in your mouth. The puree also had an amazing flavour, it was silky smooth and very moreish. The salad was a mix of pear, rocket, walnut and goats cheese, it balanced the pork nicely, and was really well seasoned and fresh.
Our pizza came out around ten minutes after we finished our tapas which was a nice amount of time between courses without feeling rushed. During this time the waitress also topped up our glasses with still water that had fresh mint in the bottle. Melt have a really unique range of pizza's making it difficult to choose, however we decided on the Jamon (tomato & mozzarella with rocket salad, olive oil, shaved prosciutto, parmesan) as I had heard it was really good. It didn't disappoint, the crust was thin and crispy, the generous serving of prosciutto not too salty and really fresh and there was a good amount of cheese without it being overloaded or greasy. This was a really 'fresh' and delicious tasting pizza and didn't leave me with a heavy or overly full feeling which was great. Unfortunately the photos don't do the food justice, it was all really well prepared and presented with high quality ingredients and fantastic flavours. The service was also spot on and the venue was really classy and modern. I'd highly recommend stopping in here if your looking for a nice/fancy dinner or quality lunch.
